Peer Support Specialists

Peer Support Specialists (PSS) are individuals who:

  1. Self identify as having experienced (or are the family member of someone who has experienced) a mental health or chemical dependency challenge
  2. Have progressed in their recovery enough to be able to support others in their own recovery journey
  3. Have been trained and receive regular supervision and trainings on how to use their lived experience in a PSS role.

PSS offer a wide variety of services including working with behavioral health consumers on personal recovery goals, helping them to develop natural support systems, and coaching consumers to advocate for themselves within their healthcare system.
